About Hack
I am Hack Albertson, I am a former Marine and I have enjoyed the outdoor’s my whole life. I am also a T9 paraplegic. I started hunting and fishing at a young age with my Grandfather, Hack Frye. I was 7 when he took me rabbit hunting with our beagles and let, or should I say made me carry the rabbits each hunt. I loved the chase with dog’s excited barking to let you know how hot the trail was that they were on. Grandpa got me my first shotgun at 10 and that single shot 20 gauge was the best gift in the world to me. The kick of the gun was awful if shooting targets but when shooting a rabbit or squirrel I learned that I never felt it. The excitement of the hunt and the kill made the kick dissappear completely. I truly miss Grandpa as he passed away a couple of years ago. But not before I got to take him to Canada fishing and help him to kill a couple of nice deer. He was a paratroper in WWII and fought on D Day and the battle of the Bulge. There was never a better role model or mentor, he taught me allot.
On January 17th, 1994 I was being pulled on a rubber inner tube in the snow with my Ford Explorer driven by my wife. I have always loved to play in the snow and this was truly a fun family night until I swung out wide and hit a tree backwards. It left me with all of my ribs broken, my spinal cord severed at T9 and a gash that took over 250 sutures to close in the back of my head. I was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Louisville, KY and they saved me so I could learn to hunt, fish and live my life in new ways.
I was only off work about 5 weeks and returned to being a purchasing agent for Kimball Office Furniture. It gave me a new passion in life, to make sure I did everything with my two kids that they wanted and deserved to do. Plus now I get to show other handicapped people what is possible and ways to hunt and harvest big deer from a wheelchair and treestand. I have been blessed with a great place to hunt and a wonderful brother John to hunt and fish with. I have several friends that are always there to help me load my 4 wheeler and hunting equipment to go hunting. Ron Zimmer, Scott Luttrell, Rod Keil, Brian Woolsey all of these guys make it easier by being there to assist me if I need it but I seldom ask for it.
I own and operate an Allstate Insurance Agency in Scottsburg, Indiana. I am married to Jill and have two children and two step children.
I have been lucky enough to harvest several bucks over 140 and one over 170 from a wheelchair. It was a challenge before I got hurt now the chair justs adds to the challenge.
According to the Buckmasters American Deer Foundation’s (BADF) Disabled Services, an estimated 1.7 million people with severe physical handicaps enjoy hunting and shooting sports in the United States.

Hack you are the man!
This is Hack and I want everyone to know that this site is open to any and all topics. Man if you want to say it and are man or woman enough to talk about it then I want to hear it and get everyone’ thoughts on it.
I hope it is a stimulating topic that helps promote our sport in a good fashion.
One thing I would welcome ASAP is anyone that could promote a way to turn in poachers as we all gain from it, as saving our hunting heritage starts with each of us.
Hunting ethics start with each of us and yes it is a big responsibility. The extra deer killed and turned in on a relatives or friends tag is a violation. It must stop and not be encouraged or tolerated by each of us.
NO! It is not like running 58 in a 55 speed limit zone. Each doe killed illegally is like killing 3 deer as most doe’s have twins each spring. Shooting that extra 6 or 8 pointer keeps a 120 inch buck from reaching 140 and being some young hunter’s trophy of a life time.
If you tolerate your friend or relative tagging an extra deer illegally then you are as guilty as they are for it. Take that extra deer and magnify by the thousands of hunters that allow it. Do the right thing, harvest what you need and want to kill and no more than your game laws allow. Protect our resources as if it were your own, because in fact it is your own.
I want you all to know going into this that the WHA and I stand only for ethical hunters, hunting and hunting methods.
The WHA is for teaching your son, daughter or neighbor’s kid what the outdoors is all about. The special time before sunrise on each hunting morning and that tingle you get when you hear the crackle of leaves in the dark after you spilled the doe in heat on your boots.
Teach a young person about hunting and our heritage and keep our shooting sports alive!

About Hack…
Hack:
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Ron , I am from Reynoldsville , Pa., I am 39 yrs. old, father of four, husband of a beautiful women, and sufferer of T11-T12 spinal injury, and L3-L4-L5 Osteomylitis caused severe stenosis and nerve root damage, and thanks to you, more alive than I have ever been!
It was a day just like any other day, I was the Operations manager of a construction firm in our local area and we were hard at work completeing a project. I was recieveung and setting trusses, one trusse after another, then it happened, upon recieving a trusse from the guys below, the trusse slid back towards the guys on the ground , (both with there backs turned), I lunged and grabbed it, It wre as though an explosion went off in my back, I took one step, and for the next 7 mons. that was the last step I took, I lost all feeling and motor control to my legs, and well you know the deal, everywere else from the injury point down, I am regaining motor control,( ability to walk), but am left with no feeling, or numbness over most of my lower body, but along with a few blessings comes a whole lot of pain, I had almost given up on the whole ordeal, on myself, hell, on life in general, and then I saw you on WHA, and you made me think alot about my condition, my self, my future, and it rekindeled in me that raw desire to press on. As an avid sportsman for over 30 years, I know what it takes to bring home the trophy , the patience, the endorance, the common respect of the sport, and moral values would all play a part in my total recovery , you made me remember me, well buck season was fast appraoching, and with my knew found attitude, I became bound and determined that I would be in the woods on opening day, either back in my chair, or on all four feet,(that includes two forearm crutches),I would be there, well the day was upon me and I was ready, I had previously gone to my stand and prepared my blind and shooting lanes , so all was set to go, my brother was going to work at #:00 a.m. that morning, so I had him stop at my stand and drag a scent drag around and under my stand, I to did the same on my way in, at 5:30 a.m. I was there,( on all four feet), thanks to you , I was there, I have to admit that I thanked GOD an awful lot during that few hours before daylight, that sunset was the best sunset I had ever seen, the winds were calm, it was simply perfect, and then there he was, I saw him afar , I grunted and he charged in, it was a cold morning and the breathe flared from his nostrals, I drew back and had him in my cross hairs, and time stood still, after awhile and careful thought, I relaxed my aim, and yelled Go Home, and a buck that was probably in the 170+ range scampered off into the woods, I figured if God was going to bless me with so much , and to top it off this magnifisant buck, I was to awestricken to put it on the ground, But to me it is a trophy that will never get away, thanks hack, thanks for all you have helped me realize,
Your new Best freind,
Ron
Ron I know exactly how you feel about that trophy man. I am so glad you got out there and went hunting again. If I can ever help you in any way please let me know. Stay strong, I know you are and it helps to not let the ones we care about the most to know how hard it is sometimes. I always look at it like this; God gave me this accident becasue I am strong enough to handle it and it makes life more of a challenge
Semper Fi !
Thanks Hack for the article. I just wish I was half the man you are. Keep up the good work and consider me a trustworthy hunting buddy for life.

This made my day….seriously
Hack keep up the good work man. You have a ton of people that got your back any day!
Thanks Hack….for everything you do
Hey Hack its me Tim from back home. I have been trying to check in to this site from time to time. A lot of us back home are finishing up our hunting season and looking for warmer weather to get the boats out. Maybe you can bring up the idea of a fishing division of this WHA thing. Well anyway I thought I would drop in and let everyone know the hunting world lost a great one back in December. My dad passed away on December 4th. His passion for hunting was something of inspiration for many. That “something” people like us feel Hack. Keep up the good times and I wish you luck and safe hunts my friend.
